Dubnivo guide: subtitle translation and audio generation
Dubnivo translates subtitles or text you have permission to use and generates a separate audio file. Use the web player on a phone or computer without installing a browser extension. Reading this guide and playing original samples requires no login; retrieving subtitles and generating your own audio requires an account and usable entitlements.
Retrieve existing English subtitles from a YouTube link
Paste a YouTube link on the homepage and open the content. Sign in, confirm that you have permission to process it, then choose the English subtitle retrieval action. This retrieves existing English subtitles; it does not transcribe a video with no subtitles or promise automatic retrieval in every source language.
If subtitles are unavailable, access is restricted or retrieval fails, import text you have permission to use instead. Check names, numbers and sentence breaks in any retrieved transcript.
Import your own text, SRT or VTT
Open “Import your own text”, enter an audio title, paste text or choose a TXT, SRT or VTT file, and confirm your processing rights. A public video link does not itself grant translation, speech synthesis or redistribution rights.
- Select the language actually used in the source text.
- Choose the audio output language, Standard or Premium quality, and an available voice. The interface language does not choose the audio language.
- Check the character reservation. Editing the text, language or voice triggers a new quota check.
- Choose “Generate audio” and wait for the server task to finish. Its timestamps refer to the generated audio.
How characters, attempts and subtitle counts are used
Output is counted in Unicode codepoints, including spaces and punctuation. A quote does not start translation or speech synthesis and does not consume a generation attempt. Creating a new task consumes one attempt and reserves characters in the selected quality pool. Success settles the actual output count and releases unused reservations.
Generation failure returns reserved characters, but not the generation attempt. Subtitle retrieval has a separate allowance: a valid account-scoped cache hit and a manual import use no retrieval allowance. Failed paid retrievals return the allowance; a trial retrieval attempt is not returned once dispatched. Site-wide service capacity can also restrict requests.
Replaying existing audio uses no characters. Changing the output language or voice creates a new generation.
Preview, play, seek and download
Try an original Chinese sample before generating your own content. The player supports playback speed, skip controls, passage seeking, bilingual text, notes and Markdown/VTT exports. The generated audio is a separate file; it does not replace the original YouTube video track.
Generated audio is kept online for seven days. Download it while retained. Lock-screen and background playback depend on the device and browser; downloaded audio can be played by a local media player. Installing the website as a PWA does not guarantee continuous background playback on every device.
Account, transcript and audio privacy
Generated content requires its owner’s account permissions. A task link alone does not give another account access. Sign in to the same account on another device to access retained audio; playback progress and notes stay in the current browser.
Retrieved subtitles are cached for seven days within the current account, without sharing them with other accounts. Retrieval sends the video link to FetchTranscript. Text requiring translation is sent to DeepSeek; Standard speech uses Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and Premium speech uses Azure Speech. Job data is stored in Cloudflare D1/R2. Do not submit sensitive information. Completed or failed generated content can be deleted from the player; the privacy policy explains retention.
Long videos in parts
Retrieve up to six hours of available English captions within text/response limits, then choose a part of at most 20 source minutes and 11,500 characters. Confirm allowance for each part; the complete original transcript is retained.
Long videos in parts →Professional terminology and code
Save source→target terminology in Learning, then enable your glossary and choose a domain during generation. Programming mode preserves inline/fenced code and stops generation if code is lost.
Professional terminology and code →Vocabulary and Anki
Save words with their original sentence, translation and source. Explicit English dictionary lookups include Free Dictionary API attribution. Local .apkg exports include up to 50 words and optional 20 existing translated-audio clips (30s each, 15MB total). Saved text remains when seven-day audio expires.
Vocabulary and Anki →Questions grounded in content
Ask about your completed, unexpired transcript. Questions are limited to 500 characters and replies to 2,000. Attempt counts are upper limits; shared generation/question service budget, daily and service capacity also apply; failed attempts still count. Image questions are not supported.
Questions grounded in content →Private podcasts
Enable a revocable private RSS URL and export existing narration to MP3 without another synthesis call; each source job has at most three lifetime export attempts. Anyone holding the URL may listen: rotate or disable it if leaked. Online media expires with the original seven-day retention; downloaded files are managed by your podcast client.
Private podcasts →Channel following
Use the actual UC channel ID, up to three channels/account. Follows start from new videos after adding, normally checking every six hours within shared 20 checks/day capacity. An eligible paid account may explicitly enable first-part generation, debited from current available allowance. Podcast publishing requires a separate opt-in and enabled RSS.
Channel following →Creator audio assets
Reference a local video, import authorized script/captions, and export multilingual narration WAV and generated-audio-timed SRT/VTT. Align assets in your video editor. Voice cloning, speech recognition, video rendering and platform publishing are not offered.
Creator audio assets →Current plan catalog

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a video without English subtitles?
You can manually import text or subtitles you have permission to use and select their actual source language. Automatic retrieval only handles existing English subtitles.
Which output languages and voices can I select?
Use the options currently available on the generation page. Standard and Premium use different speech providers and may cover different languages. The 48 interface languages do not guarantee that every speech option is available.
Is the audio synchronized with the original video?
It is a separate reading of the text. Passage timestamps refer to that audio, not the original video. It does not replace the source track, clone its speaker or provide live interpretation.
How should I compare packs and subscriptions?
One-time packs suit occasional generation; monthly and yearly subscriptions suit ongoing usage. See pricing and its FAQ for current amounts, counts, expiry and purchase availability.
